28.6.12 Beauty: Stye

What's a stye you might ask. So what's a stye?!
This is a stye. Click on "read more" to get more informations about styes!
(I resized the pictures into the smallest size so don't worry,
it won't scare you like all the other scare me while I was looking for a less scary looking picture)

I always thought a stye is a pimple. After knowing how serious a stye can cause, I am SO glad that I don't have it now. I have combination skin and normally a stye will happens to people with oily skins, specifically oily eye areas. Stye grows near your lashes and mine grow on my lower lash line few months ago. Thought it was nothing serious so didn't take a picture of it but I found a picture on google that looks exactly like how it is on my lower lash line:

Stye is actually a very serious infection because it can get worse like:
There's a chance of it becoming bigger and bigger until your eyes shut. It can cause bleeding too. From what I experienced, styes hurt like a bitch especially when it grows on your eyelid because you will have difficulties blinking, opening or closing your eyes. But mine's on the lower lash line so it didn't hurt that much. I did nothing much when I have it, I just drop some eye-drops that was suppose to cure eye irritation and it disappear 2 days after. But if you really get stye, I suggest you visit the doctor before it worsen to like the picture above!

What causes styes from growing?
Stye can form due to Inflammatory diseases of the eyelid, like blepharitis, meibomitis, and rosacea. Poor eyelid hygiene, improper removal of eye makeup, hormonal changes, and stress have also been known to cause Styes.

What's the difference between internal and external styes?
internal > < external
Internal Stye - An internal stye occurrs on the underside of the eyelid and causes painful swelling. The internal stye may disappear completely once the infection is gone, however it can leave a small fluid filled cyst that may have to be opened and drained by a doctor.

External Stye - An external stye starts off as a small pimple next to an eyelash. It then turns into a painful swelling that can last for several days. Most external styes are short-lived.

So now that you know what's a stye, here's how you can prevent it:
1. Relax. Styes often develop in times of stress. College students cramming for exams often wake up with a stye. During times of stress, our bodies excrete certain chemicals and hormones that may play a role in developing styes. Because stress is unavoidable in life, it is important to find ways to reduce or prevent stressful incidents and strive to decrease negative reactions to stress.

2. Clean. Take time daily to properly clean your face, gently washing your eyelids to remove excess debris. Never fall asleep without removing makeup ESPECIALLY EYE MAKEUP + MASCARA. Residue from cosmetics can easily clog the glands of the eyelids.

3. Scrub. Get a tear-free baby shampoo applied to a warm washcloth is a less-expensive alternative and makes a great eye scrub for your eyes area to MAKE SURE your eye makeup is completely removed.
